A Season of Shadow

The Mayan cosmovision is one of duality.

It is very yin yang like in its embracing of both the light and the dark, the sun and the shadow. For without looking at our shadows, we cannot fully embrace our light.

Don’t worry.

Looking into your shadow may feel a bit scary, but it is empowering and important.

SEASON OF SHADOWS

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be moving into eclipse season with both a partial Solar eclipse on March 29th and a full-blood moon total lunar eclipse the night of March 13-14th.

During this time, it is traditional in the Mayan world to do a few things to protect yourself from dark entities that might be about and to help the returning of the light.

DIRECTIONS FOR ECLIPSE

1.      Stay inside. There are wild powers about during eclipses and these entities can have a damaging effect on you. Close your windows and doors and don’t go out until the eclipse is over.

2.      Wear red. Red is a protective color. Choose red clothing and accessories and tie red strings around both your wrists.

3.      Make lots of noise to provide a sound path for the light to return. If you love drumming circles, the eclipse is a lovely time to create one. You can sing loudly, play instruments, or just turn up the music. However, you choose, make some sound!

4.      Give your inner thoughts a voice. As you are singing, drumming, and making noise, give your inner, silent mind a voice. Say, out loud, the things you never say. Say them without judgement. Just speak them into the ether and let them go!

YOUR SHADOW

We often think of shadow work as frightening or unpleasant. But it doesn’t need to be. Your shadow is simply the part of you that you don’t not bring into the light. This can be things about yourself that you don’t like or are ashamed of, but it can also be your secret hopes and desires. It can be thoughts you choose to keep to yourself.

It can be empowering and even fun to give space for your shadow.

TRY THIS

1.      Think of something that is an unspoken desire.

2.      Then ask yourself why you don’t talk about it.

You might be surprised at what comes up.

During the full moon lunar eclipse, you may want to give voice to this unspoken desire. It can be exciting and cleansing, AND it can also help bring it into your manifested reality!

During this season of shadows, it is safe to embrace your shadow.... it is part of who you are.

hugs and butterflies,

laura
